    Word meaning more than love?
    My boyfriend once told me that there was a word in another language that does not translate to English. It is a heightened form of love, something that means much more than love. I've searched on Google, I've tried to find it, but I can't. What is that word?

    This is just a guess, but maybe it is the word "agape?" But, it can be roughly translated to English. It does mean more than what we usually think of as love. (Without getting into the definition of love here!)

    An explanation of it is on the following site:

    While I don't believe it is agape, I also cannot find a word that cannot be translated into English. You need to ask your boyfriend, since he says he knows this word. Could be all gibberish. Could be something to it.

    There is a Greek word for a special love, "Latreia", which is adoration, but that translates to English also.

    He doesn't remember the word, just that it exists. That might be it.

    There are two forms of love, phileo love and agapao love. I could expand if you want me to

    Agape means unconditional love but it is not a heightened form of love

    In Sanskrit, Prema means universal love.

    You can also go through synonyms for love:

    Although I have no boyfriend,I believe that if you really love someone,then no word could tell your feeling no matter how beautiful it is!If you really love someone,then love him/her,listen to your heart,do something to make him/her happy,but never hurt others!;)

    LOVE BEGETS LOVE

    There is a wise Chinese saying: "The person who loves others will also be loved in return." God might be trying to work in another person's life through you.

    http://members.aol.com/timyrna/lovebegetslove.htm

    LOVE love begets, then never be
    Unsoft to him who's smooth to thee.
    Tigers and bears, I've heard some say,
    For proffer'd love will love repay :
    None are so harsh, but if they find
    Softness in others, will be kind ;
    Affection will affection move,
    Then you must like because I love.

    http://www.luminarium.org/sevenlit/h...toelectra5.htm

    Love is as sweet and musical
    As bright Apollo's lute,
    Strung with his hair;
    And when love speaks,
    The voice of all the gods
    Make heaven drowsy
    With the harmony.

    Shakespeare, Love's Labour's Lost
    Act IV, Scene III.

    Love sustains. Love strengthens. Love is the urge behind all adventures, all sacrifices, all success. When Love is the lever that operates the mind, only good can result. (Sanathana Sarathi)
