    Ok in WWW naming why is the Top Level Domain for England .co.uk and the TLD for say Germany just .de??

    Surely it should be .co.de for country germany??


    Any ideas people

    .co.uk isn't the UK's top level domain. . uk is the top level part similar to German's .de domain. In the UK you then have a second level domain, e.g.

    .co.uk = commercial
    .gov.uk = government
    .ac.uk = academic

    And there's more than that. I'm assuming whoever manages the German .de domain has just have decided to use just the top level domain (.de) for now. I could be wrong though - couldn't find anything on a German 2nd level domain.
