a cubic yard is reference to area, Tons is a reference to weight. Two different methods of measurement. Question should be How much does a yard of whatever weight? A ton = 2 thousand pounds

This will vary. A cubic yard is 3' x 3' x 3'. Gravel will weigh approx. 1.4 ton per cubic yard. So what are you material are you considering? Stone? Gravel? Dirt? So you really need to go and ask a supplier in your area. Hopefully you will have a more succint question for that person than you posted here. From what you asked, no one can give you the exact, precise answer.
