Can a Router be Used as a WAP?
    Hi Everyone,

This is my first posting and I really hope it works. Sorry for no introductions at this point, but I really need a quick answer to this.

Can I use a second and/or third WRT54GS Linksys Router(s) to act as a wireless access point to the first WRT54GS Router?

I have 3 routers, all Linksys WRT54GS (speedbooster) and 3 buildings with one internet cable connection coming into the router in building number 1. We already have each router in all 3 buildings connected to separate high gain outside antennas. We ultimately want to be able to connect several computers in each building to the router in that building, but share the internet connection between all 3 routers. Is this even "do-able"??

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    Bill

It should be. You would want to disable the DHCP function in the satellite routers so they only function as a WAP. I would suggest calling Linksys support to get specific configuration advice. Their tech support is excellent.

Thank you very much! I'll look into it and probably call them. I know the 54G model is made for "access point" configuration, I'm just not sure if the 54gs wireless "router" can do this. I sure hope so or it's going to cost more $$$$ to get access points. Have a great weekend!

I also had a 54GS and used it as just a WAP, but with a wired router as my connection to my broadband modem.
