    My 18 year old son
I live in NC and I have a 18 yr old son who is a college student. He was dating a wonderful girl and she got pregnant. They told me right before Thanksgiving and although shocked we accepted it and wanted to do all we could for both of them. Before Christmas his girlfriend broke up with him and said he did not need to know anything about the child until it was born, which she did not want him coming home and going to any of her doctor appts with her. The baby was born this month and she will not let him see the baby. Does my son have any rights at all. I am sure his name is not on the birth certificate. This situation is breaking my heart. This child needs to know his other family. My son is a great guy. Please help anyone!!

Of course he has rights, to see his child. He needs to start with a paternity test, if he is not on the birth cert, and go from there. You will need to get a lawyer, as it will probably go to court. Are you sure she has the child, and did not give it up for a adoption?

They let me (only me) see the baby this past weekend, after several attempts in the hospital. THey is she and her mom and I feel like her mom is a control freak and it is going to be a tough fight. I will get a lawyer if I have to but it is so un necessary

If you can reach an agreement with them, then a lawyer may not be necessary. However, it can be a battle with her and her mom. You just need to let them know that the more people in the child's life that love him/her the better. They should understand if you put it that way, no one wants to deprive a child of a family and love. Congrats on becoming a grandparent... is it a boy or a girl? Good luck with it all!

First there must be a test to confirm paternity, and then he can seek his rights and set up child support. No lawyer should be needed unless they want to fight him on this, then a free consultation will lead you in the right direction. Then the courts will step in, and he can get visitation. It would be better to deal with this among yourselves, but your son will have to do what he has to, to be in the child's life. Congrats and Good Luck.
