I have been talking with the SSI and IRS about social security having no record of my SSI being paid from my employer and wages from !982-1992. I found one tax 1040 form from that period but none other. I was residing with my parents at that time and parents are deceased. Both IRS and SSI say they have no records for that time. I thought I could retrieve them from IRS but, as I said, no. The employer is still in existence but not co-operative. Company was an employment agency and this makes me wonder how many others were victim as well. Can I demand their IRS records through court. I have lost 10 years of SSI.am older and definitely wiser.

If both agencies tell you they have no record of your existence maybe your social security number was filed incorrectly with your employer, but I have worked with the IRS Very closely and I doubt they would let an inconsistency go for very long without an audit. I feel that your employer failed to file his quarterly returns and that is an obligation of ssa and IRS to enforce not you.

How come you did not notice these errors yearly when your ssa statement arrived?

SSA statements have only been sent annually for about the last five years. Prior to that, you had to request the statement.

Call the IRS and explain your situation. I suspect they will investigate further to find out why money was not deposited on your behalf. Contact the Fraud and Abuse Hot Line.

Being the tax expert you definitely know more than me, But I remember getting these statements for at least the past eight years maybe ten

Do you have your copy of the W-2 that you would have filed with the one tax return you have from that time? Does it list your correct SS Number?

The statute of limitations may have run out already. Usually the IRS will only go back 10 years.

There is no statute of limitations when it comes to back tax collection if fraud is involved.

But I just wondering... if the company did not report or pay payroll taxes for those 10 years, and is still in business, the IRS would have been all over them by now. IRS is very strict about payroll taxes. Was income to you reported on a 1099-Misc and did you claim the income on your tax return?

Agree about the IRS being strict about payroll taxes, but if the company NEVER reported her income, they may be operating under the radar.

It would be very rare that a company can operate that long under the radar without being audited. We're talking 15-25 years. I guess anything is possible. LParker, did you actually receive pay check stubs every time you got paid by this employment agency for 10 years? Did you receive cash payments? Did you file tax returns claiming the income from the employement agency for 10 years? And this whole time, the IRS never questioned the income that you claimed from your employer? Did you have to send a copy of your W-2 with your tax return when you filed? And the IRS has no record of your W-2s?
