    My Shih Tzu
My dog was in his kennel all day and scrapped his neck trying to get out of his kennel. I gave him a luke warm bath to check where he cut himself but it was just scraped. The problem now is he took a poop and there was blood in his stool, then a half hour later he went back into the bathroom to go poop again and seemed to strain a bit trying to poop and squirted out a couple drops of blood. What's wrong with my baby? He's usually not in his kennel that long and today he was in there for 8- 10 hours due to him being naughty when were gone, we have to have him in the kennel when were gone now. Will he be OK?? :(

You should take him to the vet just to make sure.. it will be worth it just to make sure everything is okay

Jamie is right. Your dog may have gotten hold of something at some point, that you are not aware of. Don't take any chances when it is apparent that he is straining and there is blood coming out. Unless DocWill signs on tonight and is able to shed light on this situation, which I cannot guarantee he will, first thing tomorrow morning, call your vet and get him in as soon as possible. Tell the receptionist that he is bleeding rectally and straining and you need to get him to be seen immediately.

Yes, the vet in the morning. It is possible he was trying to escape the kennel due to other distress. If naughty involved crunching brittle things, all the more reason to call the vet.

Actually by midnight when he went to the bathroom again he was fine, just the normal duty done. I think it was the stress from being in his kennel so long. He's fine today and we went for a walk last night and he's actually back to his same old self. Today I didn't put him in his kennel cause I feel so bad. Bad mommy!

Your right, I've seen dogs with the same problem after a bad ordeal as you speak, blood in there stool, Few times I even took mine to be checked, the vet found nothing wrong and said the same thing, STRESS, maybe strained sometime,
But it would be a wise idea to watch the dogs poop for a while to be on the safe side,
Because it can be a sign of a more serious problem such as cancer, worms, etc.

As part of my policy to avoid letting things I disagree with go unchallenged without off topic debates, I put my objections to the above link at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/i...tml#post445858

If it is wrong about other things, can you trust what it says about blood in the stool? I think the problem requires at least continued careful watching.

The link I gave was, To give a little insight into the situation.
No one thing is Gospel to any given situation, And no one person is always right!

We each state our facts as we know them,
    Nothing more , nothing less.

My facts were based on my situation I have personally experienced,
Blood in the stool can be the cause of a wide variety of things,
When in doubt see your Vet.

    UnChallenged?
Humm I don't partake in those, waste of my time.
