    Hunter ceiling fan switch nightmare
The chain on my Hunter ceiling fan broke and I bought a replacement. I must have not connected the wires correctly, because I have only 2 speeds. The wire colors are black, brown, grey and purple. I assume that black goes to the L position on the switch. What about the others? Help!!
    Thanks,

    Usually,

    Black - L
    Grey - 1
    Brown - 2
    Purple - 3

You might not have the right switch. Did you get it from Hunter?

I went to the place where I bought the fan, thinking that they would have one (Hunter) and they didn't, so I am using what they had. Do I need a Hunter part? I wonder where I would get one?
    Thanks,

Went to ceilingfanrepair found answer, too late, he already provided answer. Can you tell which speed is missing, Which will correspond with each color(Grey, brown, purple ,off, repeat) is voltage at missing color?
Still could be switch, or fan winding connection.

It seems to be the medium speed. I have high and low.

If you have voltage at Brown(Medium speed) from switch, with switch set to medium, then
Switch is good and winding to fan is bad. New switch won't help.
No voltage at brown(when set to medium), Bad switch.

It still could be the wrong switch. There ar different types of 3 speed 4 wire switches. Try ordering one from Hunter.

Never had a problem where I needed to understand Fan Pull Switches. Looking into,
I see that some Connect L to 1+2, for 1 speed, L to 2+3, for another speed, or L to 1+3
    For 3rd speed.
Ceilingfanrepair? Do you know how many other switching arrangements there are, I am now curious. Thank for the help.
