    '03 Hyundai Accent transmission problems?
I have an automatic '03 Hyundai Accent, about a year ago I had to get the brake-thing changed that sends a signal or whatever and allows me to change from "park" to "drive"... and on my way home tonight, I turned on the engine, put it in drive with no problem, started driving forward, got about maybe 2-3 feet and then the car jolted (a little since I wasn't going that fast) and stopped at the same time. I put it back in park, turned off the engine, waited a second, turned it back on, and put it in drive (but it was harder to do so than normal, really sticky and reminded me of how it felt when I had to get that brake-thing changed- except not as bad because before I couldn't even move it out of park!) I got home fine, but when I put it back in park, it was still really sticky and hard to move. My friend said it sounds like transmission problems, but I was wondering if anyone knows anything more specific since I don't want to take it someplace and get ripped off (since I obviously don't know much about cars)... sigh. Thanks.

It sounds like you replaced the brake-shift-interlock. That's the "thingy" that prevents shifting from park to drive unless you have your foot on the brake. Very safety related. But now you're describing what sounds like a stiff shift-control cable. The cable that connects the shift handle, inside the car, to the transmission. Have a qualified tech check it out. Then get back to us. Good luck!

I took it to the Hyundai dealership today and told them exactly what happened but they couldn't duplicate the problem, and so they just found a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff that needed to be done... sigh. But thanks for your answer! If it happens again, I'll be sure to tell them more about what I think went wrong! :D
