I have put up many ceiling fans with lights but this is the first time I have put one up without a light and then went and bought a light kit. (By the way there are two switches on the wall, one for the light and one for the fan). The ceiling fan worked perfectly and then I went to put the light kit on and hooked it up just like I was suppose to, black to black and white to white, put it all together and the light doesn't work. So I hooked the two blue and the black coming out of the fan to the black on the light and then white to white. The light now works with the fan switch when the fan is on but only on the sucking direction and not on the blowing direction. I know I have something crossed. I just want to either be able to work the light with the light switch or have the fan switch work both the fan and the light in the right direction. Any help?

... have power wired to it? It sounds as if it doesn't since the lights work when connected to the fan wiring. Check the light switch wiring and make sure you have a hot (live) wire on one of the switch terminals, a neutral hard wired to the light assembly and a switched hot on the remaining switch terminal connected to the ‘other’ wire(s) in the light assembly. A continuity test may be required…make certain the breaker is off when using an ohmmeter.

To have the separate wall switches switch the fan and light separately, there should be a 3 wire cable, black, red, and white. One switch will switch the black, and the other the red. Wire all the whites together at the fan. Wire the black from the cable to the black on the fan. Wire the red from the cable to the black on the light. I don't think the blue is used unless it goes to the reversing switch. You may need to remove the fan from the ceiling box to find the red.
