    Sell by date
How much longer can you keep eggs past the sell by date? And would hard boiling then allow you to keep them longer? Thanks

No longer than a three-four weeks past the date, would I keep them. You can hard boil them, yes, but make sure you do not let them sit very long in the refrigerator.

Depends on how you're storing them - refrigerated around 40 or so degrees Fahrenheit, yes? Also depends on whether you take them out and let them warm up and then cool them down and so on.
I've kept fresh eggs for a month past the sell-by date. If a doubt as to whether they are good or not, you can 'float' the egg in a container of water - if it floats to the top, it's probably bad so let your S.O. crack it open to check while you go out for the mail...

I know that the original post is now quite old. But, I wanted to anwer anyway.

I really agree with the floating thing. If it's floats at all, it's definitely bad. I don't really know how long eggs will last beyond their expiration date. But, even if I use them before their expiration date, I always float them in a glass of water. If they rise even the slightest, then I don't use them. Better to be safe then sorry. There is no telling if the conditions for storing and transporting them to the store were the most ideal for ensuring their freshness.
