Do I have to uninstall my video card?
A few months back I purchased Doom 3,
as an interim game to play while waiting for the release of Half Life 2. My Compaq Presario's onboard video card handled the game with no problems.

When Half Life 2 was released, I purchased it and installed it, only to find that my onboard video card wasn't good enough to run the game. I then purchased an nVidia card and downloaded the drivers for it and Half Life 2 ran like a dream.

I recently wanted to play Doom 3 again and found that it would not install properly with the nVidia card in place. Is it necessary for me to uninstall the nVidia card and drivers in order to play Doom 3 again?

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling Doom. Games are notorious for tweaking performance by directly accessing video. It may be that the install was set for your old video adapter and won't run because it can't find it.

Do I Have To Uninstall My Video Card?
I've tried uninstalling/re-installing multiple times. It seems to install, but the "Play Game" button does not show up.

Have you tried contacting the authors for support?

HL and DOOM rely heavy on video cards, you will have to tweak your settings in game itself, also download latest drivers from nvidia, turn of vsync also, check your hardware profile to make sure the other card is uninstalled.

I resolved the problem by manually installing Doom 3. It plays fine and the difference in the quality of the graphics is amazing.

    Video Card
    Hi,
Don't uninstall your video card until you have checked the manufacture's website for updates.
Go to the Nvidia website, find your card, then see if there are any downloads for updates to it. Most of the time, the updates will specify why they are needed, naming games, or other aspects as to why.
    Try that first.
    Best wishes,

    Curly,
Why bother reading the thread? That only gets in the way of padding one's numbers.

    Fred,
I will be happy to answer these. Unlike you I don't shy away from direct questions. First, the simple answer is I don't constantly criticize others. I'll point to the 6 weeks where you didn't post and note that I didn't post one criticism during that time. This is just another example of your misinformation. You make statements that are easily proven false. I will admit that I frequently criticize you Fred. One might ask why is that. Because you frequently give wrong answers and misinformation. One glaring example is your statement about cables and USB. When you posted that answer I asked simply for backup for that statement. You have never given any. That's why you are the object of criticism from several people who DO know what they are talking about when it comes to computing.

As for my using the Quote function. I do it to make it easier for readers to follow what I'm referring to. Nothing more, nothing less. As to my padding, all one has to do is look at how many times you add responses to already answered questions and how often I do it. Its easy to see who really tries to pad their numbers (hint: it ain't me).

This latest set of tirades on your part is just more of the garbage you have been guilty of for years.
