Pregnant and being charged with theft under 5000
Hi I am 8 months pregnant. And being charged with theft under 5000 for taking cash from my till at work. Needless to say it was a stupid thing to do but it was to put gas in my car so I could get to work the next day and to buy food. I was in all honesty just about to put the money back into the till when they asked me to come upstairs. But that is irrelavant as I still had the money on me when searched. So I have never been in trouble before this but apparently my till has been short before so I told them I would pay back whatever it has been short before. I was just wondering what my chances are of not going to jail. I would have just had my baby a month before my court date and plan on breastfeeding. I don't want to be away from my baby what do I do?

Where do you live? Have you don't this before? Most likely esp since your pregnant or will have a baby at the time they will go with probation for a small amount.

Have you received a summons to go to court?

The best thing for you to do is contact an attorney.

You may just get a probationary period plus to make restitution, which you were planning on doing. Your first offense and with your circumstances, it would be counter productive to put you in jail. But you do need to contact an attorney to make sure your rights are protected and that you have an advocate.
