    Application Requirements for Portuguese Passport
Hi, I am looking for any information or guidance with regard to applying for my Portuguese passport.
I was born and live in the Republic of South Africa, my father is Mozambican and my mother South African.
We are currently entitled to dual citizenship.
My father was born in mozambique in 1940 and came to South Africa in 1960 to study.
The law of South Africa, at the time, stated he could not have dual citizenship and had to relinquish his portuguese passport. Which he did and has never reapplied for a new one nor is he a current holder of one.
My grandfather (on my fathers side) was born in lisbon in 1907 and came to Mozambique in 1927. Where he was posted as District Governor until his retirement.
He passed away in 2003 but we have acess to his birth certifictae and any other required documentation as he was in the government.
My grandmother was born in 1917 in Mozambique and her parents were from lisbon and settled in Mozambique in the late 1800's.
The main reason that I want to apply is that my mother now lives in Portugal and needs help with her new business. Which I want to go over and help her with, this may take a few years after which my wife, child and myself will return back home.
    Any help would be apprciated,
    Warm regards... Ze

If your father denounced his citizenship you might have problems but as said above, check the thread and contact the local consulate.

Your father was compelled to denounce his citizenship therefore if he is still alive he has to apply for the re-acquisition of his citizenship before the Tribunal da Relação of Lisbon.

If he has passed away, nothing can be done.

However, you can apply for the Portuguese citizenship as grandson of a Portuguese citizen.

You need your Portuguese birth cert first. If you are not registered go to the embassy and they will tell you. You will need your fathers FULL birth cert, your full birth cert, possibbly your parents full marriage cert and to register your marriage, your full marriage cert. The childern under 14 only need the normal birth certificate and it is free to register them.
