My grown stepdaughter asked me why I did not adopt her when her mother and I married when she was 12 years old. Can I still adopt her and give her my last name for her maiden name? She told me that she prefers to put my last name down when filling out forms that asks for her maiden name? We are very close and she has a daughter now and it would mean a lot to be able to do this for her.
