I can't figure out how to turn off my pilot light. The instructions say to push down and turn to off the only problem is that I'm not sure which way to turn since the word of no longer exists on my apliances switch

It would be impossible to tell from here. I would try one way and if that does not work go the other way. Do not turn real hard it should go easy once you push down. If you have a picture that would help us see what kind you have.
