    Low Pressure at Kitchen Faucet
Within the last week, the water pressure at my kitchen sink has diminished to a trickle. I have taken it apart, cleaned the filter, then I took the filter out, but still the pressure is low. Pressure at all other faucets is fine. Any suggestions?

By filter I assume you mean the aerator, good place to start. Are both hot and cold acting the same? Try opening nthe supply lines below the sink at the stop. Open the stop and put a bucket in front of it and open the stop. Do you have good pressure at this point?

Yes, both hot and cold are acting the same. Okay, now for the REAL story... I'm not sure I know how to do what you told me to try... I'm just a woman! What is the stop?

    KAy,
Let me walk you through what Bal suggested. He's asking you to check the hot and cold supplies to see if your pipes have pressure.
You will have to know how to shut off the water to your house and have a adjustable wrench large enough to fit the compression nut on the angle stops in the cabinet. Do you wish to proceed? Back to you, Regards, tom

Thanks, Tom, for trying to help. I don't really have the right tools, so I'm thinking I am going to have to give up and call a plumber.

Don't sell yourself short Kay. Tom and I can walk you through a few easy steps and you'll feel good that you are learning home owner skills. Two small pipes come out of your wall below the sink. They may go straight to the faucet or could make a 90 degree turn. At that turn do you see what appears to be a small knob? If yes turn both knobs to the right, clockwise to shut off the water to the faucet. If you don't have knobs them maybe you should call a local plumber. Back to you Kay

Hey, thanks! You guys are great. I did turn the water off at the hot and cold under the sink. What is next?

Open the faucet to insure that those two valves are really closing the water supply, just a few drops and then nothing. Now take a wrench, adjustible spanner or even a pair of pliars and back off (counterclockwise) the little nut like thing above the valve. You should be able to pull the small pipe out of the valve, upward. Here is the ricky part because we don't want a flooded bath. Put a bucket under the sink unedr the valve if it will fit. Hold a rag over the opening of the valve and open the knob counterclockwise. If you get good water pressure then there is something in you faucet mixer plugging things up. If you have low pressure at theknob thing (stop is the real name) then we will try something else. Come back to us with your results. Tom's here bright and early, me, not so much early.

I DID IT! Thanks to you two guys, I found that my water pressure coming into the house was very good, so I took the faucet all apart and found that there was some gunk inside it. I cleaned it out and, wa-laa, it is working perfectly! You were right... by fixing it myself, it really did make me feel good, and probably saved me quite a good-sized plumbing bill! Thanks again. Kay

    Hi Kay,
"I DID IT!! Thanks to you two guys"

And we're proud of you. Give yourself a pat on the back. You have completed a plumbing repair and saved big bucks on a service call.

Kay, tomorrow the three of use can rip out that old tub and shower and install a Roman shower. You should be up for that.
