    Presario R3000 monitor
Hi, The monitor of my compact presario R3000 was nicely working when suddently it became dark like when it is off. However you can see that it is still on by pushing the button that became pushed when you close the computer. When I push and release it I can see the images clear but then they goes dark again. Is there something I can do or I just have to get a new one??

    Thanks for your help!!

Do you have another monitor you can swap in to see if it's the monitor or the video adapter?

I doesn't sound like something on the monitor is loose.

When you say "the monitor of my compaq" you mean the built-in laptop display right?

As far as I know, you can't use a laptop to check the display of another laptop. What you need is an external monitor.

Most laptops will have a video/monitor output (i.e. VGA) on the back. You can connect this to a CRT or LCD.

If when connected to an external monitor and you see Windows fine, then it could be a problem with the laptop's display.

Thanks for aswering HVAC888. Yes it might sound confusing... it is the built in laptop display. I found the Video/monitor output and I will check the display as soon as I get to the office. But what should I do next?? I mean, if it is OK then how can I make it work in the laptop.

    Thanks for your help.

Usually when you plug in an external monitor, the laptop display will go blank, unless there is some feature that can be enabled to support dual displays. Check the video driver settings - right-click the desktop and select properties.

You should also check if maybe a power-saving setting has been changed.

The problem you described sounds like a back-light issue. If all else fails, you'll need to bring it in for repairs.

I think you are right... the problem must be the backlight. Can you give an stimate on how much might it cost?

    Thanks

Unfortunately I don't know what it would cost, I'd expect it to be rather expensive though.

Hope you bought an extended warranty...
