His uncle was a security guard or cop who owned a saint bernard. His uncle was killed when a telephone pole crashed and electricuted him, but the dog survived. Through an amazing twist the family learns that the electric jolt transfered the uncle's soul into the dog's body and the episodes after are all about them learning to live with it and get used to it.
