Here I go again! ;)

So the Vet gave me Eradimite to put in my puppies ears. He said he didn't see any indication she had earmites but he gave me the medicine just in case since she was itching them too much.

I've been putting it in her ears everyday like the Vet suggested and about 20 min. after I put the medicine in I look in her ears and find a lot of dark brown stuff coming out of them. I have been cleaning the borwn stuff out with a Q-Tip but... is this normal? I tried to look it up on Google but I found many variations of answers (some say it means baterial infections, some say earmites, etc.) and I know Labman says Google isn't the best place to look anyway.

Nope not normal ear health, however it is normal after medicine is applied. Use cotton balls to help remove the upper ear canal, DO NOT GO VERY FAR INSIDE THE EAR, this stands a to greater ear damage, disturbing migrating mites.

Yep, love, Docwill knows his stuff. It is a very good sign that all the gunk is coming out now. Use the cotton balls or cotton pads to get the goop out. I know labman uses Q-tips, but I use cotton pads. I am too afraid of damaging my babies ears. As long as goop is coming out, keep up with the medicine as instructed. :)

If she uses a q-tip and unintentionally inbeds even one ear might into the ear drum, that little pup is going to be one hurting doggie, an I may feel compelled to go to her house and pee on her tires!

Hey CCP, don't you go peeing on anyone's tires now. Save that for one of your "boys" to "innocently" do when you are walking by. If you do it, you might git yourself arrested!

Well, I just don't know what to do anymore. At first I thought using a Q-Tip was bad, then is was okay, and now it's not? LOL.. I'm going to throw all the Q-Tips in my house in the trashcan... they're more trouble than they're worth. ;)

Ear mites are tiny infectious organisms resembling microscopic ticks. The mite can just barely be seen as a small white dot with the naked eye, but it usually must be detected by examination of a sample of ear wax under a microscope. Infection usually produces a characteristic dry black ear discharge commonly said to resemble coffee grounds. Because of the classical appearance of this discharge, infection is often diagnosed based on the presence of such discharge though without visual confirmation of the mite under the microscope, it is possible to be led astray. The discharge is composed of ear wax, blood, inflammatory biochemicals, and ear mites themselves The mite lives on the surface of the ear canal skin, though sometimes migrates out onto the face and head of its host. Eggs are laid and hatch after 4 days of incubation. The larva hatches from the egg, feeds on ear wax and skin oils for about a week, and then molts into a protonymph, which in turn molts into a deutonymph. The deutonymph mates with the adult male. What seems especially bizarre to us mammals is that the deutonymph has not yet developed a gender at the time it mates with the adult male.After mating, the deutonymph molts into either an adult male or an adult female. If she becomes a female, she will be gravid with eggs as a result of the mating. If he develops into a male, there are no consequences to the mating and he is ready to mate with deutonymphs of his own choosing. The adult mite lives approximately 2 months happily eating ear wax and skin oils. The life cycle (the time it takes for an egg to develop into an adult mite ready for parenthood) requires 3 weeks.SO THE BAD NEWS IS LUVMY,, the reason I say its bad news is this is going to take at LEAST 30 days from the time of the first dose of midication. The long and short of why is easily over looked. The eggs that were laid seconds before the medication was applied will hatch 21 days from then. If you have any other dogs or cats, start the same treatment on them as well, that's easily overlooked, and the leading cause of unseccessful treatment attempts. Along with infected bedding and ewww the couch has ear mites on it too. See aren't you glad we met? I know I know someone else is going to read this and say DocWill is mean to that nice little lady. To bad, I have to make sure you know what to correctly the first time. Just think if you have to do it again!

I didn't take it you were being mean at all, I really do appreciate your advice. Hey I paid $50 to get that advice from my Vet, but he didn't go in depth as you did. I seriously need to change Vets.

Here's how the Vet visit went:
She's 5 1/2 lbs (looks in ears with bare eye) I don't see any sign of earmites but just in case here's some $15 earmite medicine. Put 3 or 4 drops in every day. See you in a few weeks to get her other shots...

Yeah, I wasn't a very happy camper when I left there.
