    Garage Support pole/beam
We currently have a support pole in the middle of our garage which quite often gets in the way. We were wondering if there is a way to replace this pole with a cross beam or something to provide support to the ceiling above and allow for the removal of this pole.

It can be done but it is not easy. That pole is load bearing so you'd have to take the load off with temporary support jacks. The beam could be a steel I beam or lambean but I don't iknow your loading. You really need the advice of an engineer to know how big of a beam you'll need. The engineer can also tell you how much added verticle support needs to be added to carry the load from the beam. You are getting into the $1500 ballpark depending on the size of your garage. You'd have to be the judge if this is worth it.

It would help to know where (what city) you are located, the distance from wall to wall and from each wall to the pole, what type of construction the garage is (wood frame, masonry, etc.) and what type of structure is above your garage.
