How do I Relinquish my rights to my child?
I have a stepson and his father wants to Relinquish his rights to his son. So what forms or where can he go to do this.

Do you plan to adopt your stepson? He can't relinquish his responsibilities unless it is to clear the way for a step-parent adoption.

If you plan to adopt, you should have your attorney handle the relinquishment and filing.

Why did you title the thread "How do I...", then in the question ask "How does he..." ? Are you the bio-father or stepfather?

Please supply more details as to what you are wanting to know.

If this is so you can adopt, that is one issue.

If the father merely wants to give up his rights, that is another.

But you will need an attorney to write up the paper work and file it in family court.

To be honest... every time I see this question... I get so angry. What are people thinking!? Most of them are asking to get OUT of support payments. I truly hope you are not of that camp. Parents have responsibilities along with rights. And just because you decide your not ready for the responsibilities you cannot give up rights. The child has a right to be financially cared for, etc. Maybe I am getting ahead of myself. The question can be asked by either step-mom or step-dad. Just be prepared if you're the step-mom to get a bit of anger from people. Cathy
