Frequent freezing with Win 9x is usually an issue of running out of System Resources. System Resources are finite pools of memory that Windows uses to keep track of the state of Windows. Things like open Windows, size & position, desktop and more. Programs are supposed to free up Resources when they close, but not all do it properly.

There is a Resource Meter in System Tools that you may want to add to your tray area. Once Resources get under 30% free, you are prone to freezing. Sometimes the only way to free up resources is to reboot.
