    Hi I'm installing a shower on my basemant,do I need a trap on the drain

    Yes! And unless you connect to a lavatory drain line you will need to run a vent off the shower. Without a trap you're opening a direct connection between your home and the sewer. This will allow sewer gas to enter your home. Sewer gas is a health hazard to your family and the methane content makes it explosive. Trap the shower! Good luck, Tom

    I stand corrected. I only said that 'cause he was talking about trap. To be more helpful, shoud have metioned vent, Thanks speedball1. I am not an authority
