Door scraping floor - needs rehanging or tightening
I have a wooden door for the downstairs bathroom and it is scraping the tile floor. Since the floor is tile and the door has not been wet (ie: not swollen), I can only surmise that I have to tighten the door hinges or something. It doesn't appear to be mis-aligned with the door frame - However, I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this! Anyone have an answer? From an American in Belgium whose knowledge of French and Flemish doesn't exactly translate at the local hardware store! Thank you.

First check that everything is square. It sounds like perhaps the door frame is leaning in towards the bathroom, or perhaps the bathroom floor slopes up a bit. Can you tell which it is? Assuming the hinge screws are tight, it may be that the only way to permanently fix the problkem is by rebuilding the door frame and/or fix the slope in the floor. The easiest thing therefore might be to simply cut 1/4 inch or so off the bottom of the door so that it clears.

Thanks for this. I have just checked the door hinge screws and some are more recessed than others (only very minutely) so this may be it. I need some brute strength and I think, someone to hold the door while I tighten them more - But even with a tiny bit of fiddling - this has helped a bit. Will try the tightening and then rehang if it doesn't work. Thanks for the speedy response. My mom is coming over from the states on Thursday and I want the house 'Mom ready' if you know what I mean?

Try "packing the hinge". Unscrew the top hinge and put a tiny piece of cardboard about 1/8th of an inch wide by the height of the hinge. Place this piece under the hinge closest to the doorstop and then replace the hinge on top of this piece and tighten it down. It causes the hinge to move to move away from the door giving you a little more clearance.
