I am installing a new shower setup. I want to install a fixed shower head as well as a hand held personal shower with hose. On the Kohler website they sell a diverter valve with some sort of backflow valve for this purpose. I have a friend who just had this done and he has no diverter valve just 2 shower heads with on/off buttons. I think I'd rather go with the diverter valve. How do I do this?

Are you asking how to install a new shower valve with a diverter? If so I'll need the model number of the Kohler diverter valve.

May I make a suggestion that is much simpler and without the expense and hassle of tearing out the old valve and installing a new one?
Why not remove the old shower head and replace it with a chrome wye that diverts the flow to either side. Put you shower head on one side and connect the hose to the hand held shower on the other. I'm not attempting to talk out of replacing the shower valve. Just giving you additional options. Regards, Tom

... for me when my Mother needed such a setup. What is that material plumbers use to prevent joints from leaking? Yellowish color and was used on a friend's shower at the joint where the chrome sweep ties in to the horizontal galvanized pipe coming out the wall. Couldn't loosen it to save my life!

We call that "Pipe Joint Compound" Way back when I started we called it "Pipe Dope" but that term's politically incorrect nowadays. ( Too many plumbers attempting to smoke it, LOL) Cheers, Tom
