Britain’s Prince Harry won’t serve in Iraq
Ministry of Defense says deployment too dangerous for 3rd in line to throne.

May 16: Army Chief of Staff Gen. Sir Richard Dannatt, Britain’s top general, says Prince Harry will not be sent with his unit to Iraq, citing specific threats to the third in line to the throne.

LONDON - Britain’s Prince Harry will not be sent with his unit to Iraq, Britain’s top general said Wednesday, citing specific threats to the third in line to the throne and the risks to his fellow soldiers.

Gen. Sir Richard Dannatt, the army chief of staff who recently traveled to Iraq, said the changing situation on the ground exposed the prince to too much danger. Media scrutiny of Harry’s potential deployment exacerbated the situation, he said.

I thought he was crazy when he said he was going to go. The enemy would just love to get ahold of him. I figured, in the end, he probably would not go. I really think he is a brave young man that wanted to go. So why did the British government hold out so long in telling him he could not go and should he be allowed to go if he wants to? I know the reason his father, Prince Charles, never went to war was because of those huge ears. They couldn't find a helmut big enough to hold them in and they kept popping out and presenting a very large target to the enemy. Harry doesn't have that problem and I think he would be a fine soldier.

I think his wishes should have been honored. Laughs about Prince Charles' ears being too big for a helmut. They could have used him in the RAF. But about Prince Harry - if the enemy got ahold of him, goodness gracious, what a frenzy that would create. Unspeakable no doubt. Best he remains safe, I give him great credit for wanting to be treated like the rest of his comrades. If wars were not fought on CNN, who would have noticed?

Yes, I admire him for wanting to go but I would not have let him. I think they made the right choice.

I'm with both of you, sending him would have been a logistical nightmare. It would have not only made himself a target, but anyone within a 500 metre radius of him!

What's annoying me now is people who's kids / partners are out there / died out there saying;

"Why is Price Harry more important than my child / partner?"

Because he's our future Monarch you tw@!

If sending your relative into a warzone was going to create an international incident and a magnet for every fundamentalist terrorist nutjob WORLDWIDE then I'm sure the government would re-think the situation, but it won't! They signed up to do a job, stop whining!

The future monarch thing isn't a good argument, what is a good argument is that he would be a risk to all those around him.

My best friend was whining about this yesterday her boyfriend has spent 8 months out there and has VOLENTEERED to return for a further 6 months as he thinks it's a great way to save money what my friend failed to see is that most english citizens would rather have our country up held by royalty than anything else now heaven forbid should anything happen to charles and wills then harry is next in line there not going to put that at risk are they.
Saying that though the boy really did want to go oh I don't know it's a tough one but he did choose the army as a goal he could have done anything and seceded because they wouldn't have let him fail.

FYI I am not a royal lover but hundreds of thousends are

I tended to think the future monarch argument was to do with the despair if a future monarch was killed... This obviously isn't a good argument as these other people have had equal despair through their sons being killed.

The putting others at major risk thing should make sense as an argument of not sending him, but obviously these mothers don't think so/are having a logical disconnect.

Yepper, I agree with that! Imagine being on a patrol with him in your squad! You'd be bricking it at every step!

And yes, your right, that statement about Charles ears was not nice, I'll bet I have offended the entire royal family. Do you think I should retract that statement?
The question I have is this: Who did Harry offend when he dressed up like a Nazi? These days, there seems to be a board of people that have a big buzzer and when someone says or does something they don't like, BUZZZZZ! Goes the buzzer. They throw you in the penalty box and the media buzzards begin circling above. Their all a bunch of wankers.
Like I say, being politically correct is for people that are hiding something, namely, the ugly truth.
I make fun of Charles because I LOVED Diana. She interjected an element of class, yet down to earthiness that the House of Windsor has never seen. At least since Anne Boleyn. The wanker prefers rotwielers though. WOW, that was about as politically uncorrect as I can get!

PMSL camilla is one hell of a ugly women isn't she mag but they had been seeing each other long before he and diana were made to wed and diana was'nt as white as people thing lol

magprob, I was just teasing about the ears. I will go one further and say the House of Windsor needs to thank the Spencers for breeding some good looks into the royal lineage. Poor Diana was used to produce an heir and a spare then tossed aside. She was too young and unprepared for what she was given to cope with.

As for Prince Harry dressing up like a Nazi. This young man is not just a frat boy looking to shock the gang at a keg party. He is 3rd in line to the throne, and what I couldn't believe is that no one around him pointed out that there were still people alive that would find his costume hurtful and offensive. It was just a surprising case of extremely bad taste, IMO.
