Not very likely. Humming, squealing and vibrating anr caused by just that. Something vibrating, a piece of washer or trash that got into the line and is now vibrating every time water rushes by. Check the toilets for water level. Track down where the noise is the loudest. Bad smells and noise are the hardest for us to analyze if we can't be there to observe. Good luck, Tom

Don't think your humming is air. If you had air in the lines it would bleed out when you open a tap. Does that happen, didn't think so? I think you have some restriction going on. Possible a washer has deteriorated or other debris built up. Tell us more like does it hum 24/7 or just when you use hot, just cold water, or just at certain sinks.

What would water level in toilet have to do with it? Thanks

What would water level in toilet have to do with it? Sometimes it's the cause, read on. The problem could be caused by the ballcock trying to fill while water is seeping out of the tank. The sound you hear could be the washer vibrating against the seat of the ballcock. First check the linkage between the flapper and the flush lever. It should have 1/4" of play when your tank is filled. The water level should be 1/2" below the white overflow tube after the tank's filled. Next feel the flat side of your flapper. Does it have wavey edges? Do your hands come away black? Replace it if it does. And last check the seat itself. Any nicks or rough spots? If so click on back. There are replacement seats that glue right over the old one and are easy to replace. One of the above should take care of your howling if the toilet's the cause. This happened in a new house some years ago. Only at night and in the early morning. They thought the house was haunted and were about to move out. I caught it in the powder room toilet. It would vibrate and the pipes in the wall would pick it up and carry it all over the house. Flapper changed, water level set, case closed. Tom
