My cat was not eating for a four days after vomiting clear slavia or a bile looking substance I took him to the vet four days in a row following to get hydrated and for some appetite pills. X rays were taken each time and nothing was found but gas. The cat then slowly came around and started eating and was normal for one week. Now the cat is showing the same symptoms again of the vomiting and not eating. I do not know wha tto do because we have spent a 1000 and had all the tests done except the ultra sound. All they could find was gas which could be from a food allergy? Any free advice would be helpful. Thanks!

It could be panleukopenia, I have no idea if I spelled that right, my cat had this. It could also be feline aids, I would consider going to another vet. These are not common illnesses for a cat (esp in the US) so the vet may not even consider this as a possibility.

Did your vet do a barium series?? The biggest thing that can kill a cat cannot be seen on an xray-string or thread that wraps into the intestine and causes blockage and death of tissue. You did not say, has she had normal bowel movements? If not, get her in for a barium series. A vet will mix up barium dye with wet cat food, force feed cat and take x-rays at different timed intervals to track the mobility of the dye. It works in 2 ways: shows where the dye stops, thus exploratory surgery is warranted to remove foreign material and secondly, sometimes the barium substance will push the foreign material on out.
If this vet you are using has never heard of this, find one who has, grab the chart from first vet and haul booty. After 4 days, your running against dehydration and infection. Let us know!!

Definitley switch vets! That is ridiculous! In the mean-time, there is a product called "Nutri-cal" you can give him that is loaded with electrolytes and calories to help keep your pet from getting more sick. Hope that helps. Good luck!

I agree with faith, get a new vet. This one is either clueless or has made their money and no l;onger cares a about the animal, only the money that it brings in.

Anna update me please to the current condition of the cat, and also what if any other than SQ fluids and probably diazepam for anorexia, and also if available the lipase and amylase results of the blood chemistry. What is her normal diet? Does she get treats?

And don't give up yet on your current Vet. I know all to well costs become a burden that can lead to knee jerk decisions at times. Trust me when I say we didn't get into small animal medicine for financial gain. We cleaned more poop than most can imagine just to have the required years an experience to even earn the right to apply to vet school. So I have high hopes, in unseen efforts he is going crazy trying to provide long over needed results to his challenge as well as yours. Just to add feline distemper isn't 100% fatal, my cat had it and came through with a few days of fluids and medicines and has been fine since.

Did the same vet that advised dogs do not get constipated tell you FIP its not 100% fatal? Loll If in fact you know its not Please send me that info, I would love to share it with all my students and faculty. Keep in mind, the common "snap" test similar to what a pregnant. Test would be for woman is not always accurate. False poss. Tests have happened, and the most accurate is lab testing in coagulated test tubes. That usually at best takes 1.5 weeks to to obtain results, witch doesn't help us much cause the patient is usually not around to matter.
