My mother-in-law was diagnosed about 20 years ago as being bi-polar and was on medication to treat that. She was hospitalized in October 2006 for 5 months. She was in a physicatric hospital for awhile, a nursing home for awhile and then at Memorial Southwest. The doctors were trying to regulate her medication. While she was at Memorial Southwest a nero surgeon did an MRI. To make a long story short, he put a shunt in her head because she has had fluid on the brain. This was caused years ago when she was 6 when she had meningitus. Since February of 2007, the only pill she takes is a blood pressure pill. She is self sufficient. She is in low income housing. She brings in only $1,100 a month from Social Security and Retirement. My question is, she is 66 years old and has Blue Cross Blue Shield as her insurance. They have paid their portion but her portion is over $100,000 dollars. There is no way she can pay this. What do we do? We also would like to know if we have any legal rights for her misdiagnosis all of these years.
Thank you,
