    Spouse Laws
Hello. I am a citizen of Jamaica. I am now engaged and pregnant for a German citizen. We are to get married here in Jamaica this October. His job is in Germany and we have come to an agreement that we will have a family in Germany. What I would like to know is how do I go about applying for a visa after we have gotten married, what type of visa should I apply for and where. What laws apply to people in my situation. Any answer given will be much appreciated. Thank You.

Ashy, your best bet would be to call or e-mail the German Consulate in Jamaica and make an appointment or speak with someone there who will tell you what you need to do and how to go about getting the paperwork in place. Explain your situation, as you have done here.

    German Embassy in Jamaica
    10 Waterloo Road
    Kingston
    City: Kingston
    Phone: 1876 926 67 28
    Fax: 1876 929 82 82
    Email: [email protected]

Your fiancé should be doing some legwork on his end and speak to The Immigration Bureau in Germany if he is back there working.

You both need to discuss not only a visa but applying for a permanent resident card since you will be married to a German and living there.

Good luck & Congratulations on your upcoming marriage! :)
