Lump on back of baby's head
My son is 4 1/2 months old. I recently felt a pea size lump on the lower left side of his skull, almost vertical to his ear. This lump is almost moveable. I don't know how long he has had this. It doesn't seem too hurt him when I touch it. What could it be, should I be worried?
    1st time mother, very worried

Why not take him to the doctor, just in case it is something

I have seen children born with the lump that you are describing but you still should ask your doctor to make sure everything is okay.

It sounds like a swollen lymph node, has he been ill recently?

Whenever you find something that concerns you on your children, especially this young, it is best for you to go to the doctor rather than ask people over the internet what the problem might be.

The advice you get may not be from medical professionals, and without a proper examination could be downright dangerous to your child's health. Please seek the advice of your pediatrician.

It could be a cyst. My kids and myself get them on the head, mine are always on my scalp, and I get them removed at the doctors, my daughter had one on her face so she had cosmetic surgery to remove it when she was 2. My son had two on the back of his head when he was a baby, and I guess they are still there! He has hair now so I don't notice them! Best to get it checked out, but its mosr likely something simple and harmless. A dr will know for sure!

BUT I was born with a sunk in spot and nothing was wrong and
Now I'm fine but like everyone else I'd take it to a doc in case

I was born with this on the lower part of my skull, near the middle and my moms doctor said that it was okay and wasn't nothing to worry about. I am not sure if I was born with it or if it developed when I was an infant but I know that mine is okay! My lump is small and it is kind of moveable too but doesn't hurt at all! If you are worried you should still ask your doctor about it to make sure.. I haven't had surgery to remove it but I have hair which of course covers it. I met a guy who is bald at my moms work and he also has a lump on the back bottum part of his head, I never asked him about it but it's their.

My daughter is 2 years she was born with a small lump on the back of her head.just under the skin which is movable side to side. About the size of a little finger nail. After 2 years of seeing doctors who said it would go on its own,(frankly they just didn't know what it was),we moved and came across an expert at southampton hospital, the things to worry about are infection, are girl has a 2mm small hole in the skull behind and has connection with the brain which gives a route straight to the brain for infection(not good), should be looked at with ultrasound scan and mri scan really.Easy to sort out but keep an eye on it and try to get someone to have a proper look at it.As left there could be dangers
