Please help. I have a problem with the AGC fuse blowing in the panel under the dash. Every time it blows the car shuts off. I have replaced the ignition control module, coil, cap and rotor but it works for a while and then it blows again. Can anyone HELP?

I had the same problem with my old truck for a while. To try to track it down, I added some fuses on different branches of the circuit. Turned out, it was the fuel pump. I think put about 4 of them on my tuck over a few years. Finally rigged a different style, and it has been fine for about 5 years. It is kind of square as opposed to the OEM ones that were round.

Thanks for your reply. This is what I have found out so far. When I turn the key to the second (or II position) the ACG fuse blows, even before the engine cranks. I removed the MAIN RELAY ASSY. And the fuse did not blow. I then tested the relay as described in the Hanes manual and the relay is OK. So far this is what I have done any more suggestions?

Are other fuses fine?

Main relay gives power to the fuel pump for "initial" fuel pressure before you crank it. Don't know if that helps anything with troubleshooting.

Thanks for the response. I just did some more testing, I installed the MAIN RELAY ASSY. And disconected the fuel pump. I turned the key to the II position and the fuse did not blow. I plugged in the fuel pump and the fuse blew. I think the pump is bad. I don't know how the pump works but every time I plug it in the fuse blows. Am I on the right trac or will I just be wasting my $100's if I buy a new pump?

If it is an external fuel pump, you can buy a generic fuel pump for less than $50. Before you buy any, make sure the wire to the pump doesn't have a bare spot somewhere.

Well, obviously the fuse blows because of an electrical problem. If your car was fine running on the previous pump, I would guess a problem might be just the wires to/from the pump. I believe the pump is on the gas tank, I will have to check it though when I get home. Will let you know if manual gives any troubleshooting guide.

Thanks for all your help. The problem is now fixed. I found out after taking the pump out and pulling it apart from the assy. That the connector had a short in it. I tested the pump first and it spun when I gave it 12v's. I them checked the connector assy. Hooked up some wires to it, gave it 12v's and at the time of touching the battery I noticed that the wire would spark. So I continued to tap the wire on the battery till it stopped sparking. I figure that as I tapped the wire on the battery post it was blowing away the short till there was no more short. I guess it worked because I assembeld the pump assy and installed it and it WORKS!!
