I just bought an older home. The basement has some moisture. I want to improve the grading around the house. But the basement window wells are concrete--about 4 inches deep (see pics). I'm not sure what I should do with them. Any advice is appreciated. I'm thinking of replacing the windows themselves with glass block. But the wells are still likely to be a problem. Thanks. First get a dehumidfier for the basement. One that has a hose drain attachment so you do not have to empty the bucket. Those window well as you call them are not really window wells in the sense that the windows are above grade. Use block on the window opening is a real good idea for safety etc. I would have to dig around to see what that window well as you call it reeally does before I would have a answer for that.

I dug around. As far as I can tell, they are just concrete basins about 4 inches deep that run the length of each window. Water wells in them and slowly seeps through the concrete. I don't know whether to fill them with sand or stone or what. I hate to leave them like this. Before I dug them out they were full of leaves and other debris. I know that wasn't good. So I'm still at a loss
