If there is a "home remedy" for sanitary pads for my beagle who just came into heat. Live very rural area cannot get to pet store or dog show
Cut a hole for her tail in an old pair of underwearand put sanitary pads in the crotch area. You can also cut up an old flannel sheet (or use an old dish towel) and use it exactly like a diaper - again with a tail hole, of course!
Hope this helps!
Didi
Training pants using the fly for the tail works well.
How much research have you done on dog breeding? Please either learn about responcible breeding or get her spayed when her heat is finished. We have enough misery from poorly informed people breeding dogs as it is.
I fail to see how anybody that really knows and loves dogs can ignore the spay/neuter issue.
Thank you for your answers. I will definitely try all suggestions and let everyone know what one I found worked best. Labman, I grew up in a "dog" home and am quite knowledgeable about dog breeding. My parents have been successful Portuguese Water Dog breeders/showers for my whole life. My is not spayed as of yet because we are considering breeding her if and when we find a suitable stud. Thank you.
I went with the training pants idea suggested by labman. There was no fly in them but cutting a hole for her tail worked great. She is not bothered by it all. Thank you again.
I wonder what your definition of successful breeding is? What is a suitable stud? Some people have some very high standards, more than conforming to breed standards in order to win prizes. I found this link, Should I Breed My Dog? I didn't just Google it up, it was on the Woodhaven Labradors Articles site. I haven't read everything on their site or agreed with everything I have read there, but they are a treasure trove of reliable dog info. I am not sure how to differentiate them from the common kook sites infesting the web with disinformation about dogs. Maybe it is just that as a highly trained, experienced person, I have evaluated them and found them trustworthy.
I don't know if you have meant to affront me, Labman, but nevertheless...
My idea of a "successful" breeder is a very valid one. Do not feel the need to defend my ideas to you because I do not know why you would automatically question them. If I were some back-yard, puppy mill breeder my girl would be outside getting tied and I wouldn't have a problem with having her in heat in the house. I applaud your very obvious concern of too many pet owners not doing the responsible thing by spaying/neutering their pets. I feel the same. But, Labman, that group does not include everybody. Thank you again for your training pants suggestion. It worked wonderfully.
