    Dog stopped eating
My 4 year old chow/rott mix just stopped eating. She was all right yesterday morning, but last night would not eat her dinner and this morning did not eat. She has never done that. I was thinking that maybe she ate something that upset her stomach. How long would it take to pass something that did not agree with her and when should I get more worried?

Cakid, it is good that you are questioning this now and not waiting for another day. I wouldn't wait because you don't know what she ingested or if she actually did ingest anything. Since it is Friday, please call your vet immediately and speak with him/her. They usually don't charge for phone calls. Explain everything that is going on. They will advise you as to whether you should bring her in for an examination. Better to be safe now, than sorry later. I would hate to see you wait out the weekend and have something happen to your dog. Please let us know what the outcome is. Good luck. I hope it is nothing serious.

As I explain in the sticky at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/dogs/i...tml#post254171 much of how soon you call the vet depends on the dog. About a year and a half ago, when my 12 year old Lab didn't eat her breakfast, I called the vet that morning. In the sticky, I tell about letting a Shepherd pup go 3 days without eating and never did call the vet.

Friday is a bad day to put off calling the vet.

She is fine now. We tried all morning and nothing, even let her get to the cat food, but she would not even take a nibble. Finally this afternoon after her walk we came in and at first she just took some of the cats water then she ate the cat food, then she had a couple bites of roasted chicken and even ate her dog bone. She must have ate something when she was outside while we were doing the BBQ the other night that did not agree with her. She is now passing a lot of bad gas. But is back to her old self.
