I have a strange hair color, my family heritage is Indian and German (mostly) so dark hair mixed with blonde, anyway it seems that my hair colors are co dominant to each other (neither is a recessive) Even though I know that is not really possible haha.
Anyway I have this dark brown hair that has red highlights (not really sure if that's what they are called) Anyway I have been trying to bring out the red. The only thing that I get is a blackish red look to my hair. I don't want the curly haired irish red but I want the red to be more obvious... some have said I should try lightening my hair with a blonde dye but I am scared to go too light. Any suggestions??

I do not recommend applying a box of blonde hair color on your hair, it will result a brassy or unpleasant color. If your highlights are dark and you want them to look lighter, you will need to lighten your hair before you can achieve the color you desire. To avoid a hair disaster, you should consider getting your highlights professionally done.
