I was wondering if the father has that right to signing his right over to the mother?
Yes a man can sign his rights away to insure he doesn't have to pay any child support.
Easy answer... yes you can sign your rights away you can not sign your obligations away. You absolutely will have to continue to pay child support!
I just hope he doesn't, that baby could really use a daddy. Good luck
I don't know if the law is different in the States but in Canada if you sign your rights away you don't have any obligation to a child that is no longer yours
This is a very much mis-understood situation, we get 100's of dead beat dads coming here with that question all the times.
If the parent with physcial custody has a new partner and that partner is willing to adopt, then if the rights are signed away, and the partner adopts, then child support will end.
But if the parent without physical custody signs away their rights, only, no adoption, then the non custody parent still has to do all legal oblgations, child support, insurance but then with no say in the child's life. This is very common and very misunderstood since they confuse this with the adoption issues of signing over rights to adopt.
In addition, attempting to voluntarily relinquish/terminate your parental rights in many states without an adoptive party requires "good cause" in order to be awarded or may be denied.
What do u do when you have a child with someone who will not let you see or child. Is getting child support form you in two states. Her new husband wonts to adopt the child but will not go to a lawyer to do it. And have not seen the child in 4 yrs and the child last time you talk to this child had no idea who you are?
