My landlord is ripping me off
I am staying in apartments here in Charlotte,NC and when I renewed my least back in Feb 2007 they raise my rent 90.00. That amount of the rent was including cable that was told to me that is mandatory to pay for cable through the landlords. Now I have cable through the local cable company here also and I'm now paying two places for cable. That's one of my problems. Are they allowed to make you pay cable through them even though I have cable through another company? Now because I couldn't pay the raised rent on time since I renewed my lease in Feb 2007 the landlord raised my rent again without notice. Is that legal? It's getting to the point that I really can't pay the rent. So what should I do I don't want to break the lease but I have to do something because it is getting out of control.

    Hello nj:

If cable is part of the rent, then it is. You don't have to continue your own account. If it comes to paying rent or cable, I'd choose rent.
