Sent court date, but missed it
I got a citation for a DUI in Delaware but live in Maryland. I was sent a court date(this was the first court date so Im assuming it was a hearing date) but missed it, and was informed that a bench warrant was sent out for me. How do I request a new date without having to drive the hours into Delaware? Is this possible, or do I have to turn myself in and face sitting in jail(I am full time employed)?

Contact the district attorney's office that is handling the case. The number should be on your court paperwork. Give them your case # and an asst DA, clerk.. will help you. Make sure you get their name. Explain the situation. They can set a new date and request the judge set aside the outstanding bench warrant during the next proceeding. That way you won't be processed by the jail. But they don't have to. Be respectful and admit you screwed up. And be there if they set a new date... if not... stay out of Delaware!
