    Very Long Periods!
Hi, I am 28 years old and I have always had long periods... 7 to 9 day. However, I started using tampons on a regular basis about a year ago and now, (my last 2 cycles) my periods are even longer! 14 days!! The frist couple of days are just very light spotting, then it gets really heavy with big clots for about 8 days. THen a day of spotting. Then I'd have, like, 3 days off, and then start spotting again. That is after the 14 days! At the beginning and end of my period the blood is more so a light brown than the usual red. What is going on?! Please help me!!

Have you tried taking Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) for 3 days before your period, then during the period? It acts like a prostaglandin and lightens the bleeding. Sounds like you have fibroids in the uterine wall. The uterus can't cramp up those surface areas to stop the bleeding. That's where the clots come from. Clots form, then they turn into liquid blood again in a period. Hence, the gushing with clots. Fibroids can be tiny or big, and are like a marble imbedded in the muscle wall of the uterus. Google "fibroids" and study them. Motrin helped me a lot. Also, study ablation therapy, and educate yourself about the risks of any surgical treatments. I had a hysterectomy at 44 and kept my ovaries. If you are still young, that's not an option. Myomectomy is the surgical removal of the fibroids. You may want to try that. Good luck. Keep tabs on your iron level with that amount of bleeding, you should be on iron.

I was told a number of years ago that I PCOD. My periods were very irregular then, now they're regular... just screwed up! Thank you for all the great information... I'll look it up.

This EXACT thing happened to me when I had ovarian cysts.. They will go away on there own most of the time, sometimes they have to be removed. You could also have fybriod tumors or other things or this could be normal. I gained a lot of weight and then that is when I started having a lot of problems and then the dr gave me a pelvic ultrasound and a pap smear because I had blood clots, spotting and exactly like you and I was told that I ovarian cysts and some had ruptured and were coming out on there on. I also had mild cramps etc but I do know how it will worry you to death because it did me...
