My name is Charles and I recently became a new home owner. The house was built in 1920, so it has no "utility room". There is however, a small room parallel to the kitchen, which I would like to convert into a utility room with washer and dryer hook-ups. About 99 percent of all dryers run on 220V, so you will need a 220V line, that might take an electrician, you will need an exhaust outlet for the lint/hot air to discharge outside, that takes a 3 /12, 4 in hole in the wall or wherever you plan to run the exhaust to, The washer needs hot and cold water faucets to connect the hot/cold water hoses to from the washer, the washer needs a drain line to drop the drain hose from the washer down into, that might take a plumber, you will need for the dryer a 220V cord or pigtail as some call it, and the prongs that you insert into the 220V outlet need to match the prongs on the cord / pigtail - buy the outlet first, then you can buy the appropriate cord/pigtail to match - dryers come from the manufacuter without a cord. The cord installs on the back of most dryers.
