    Drum Trap Conversion
I am in need of some suggestions. I just tore out my 82 year old upstairs plumbing to my bathroom. I have converted over to copper plumbing and want to finish with PVC drainage. However, the tub originally had a Drum trap which was offset from the drain by about 1 1/2' . The drain had pitched down to the bottom of the drum trap and the drum trap stepped up and then continued on over to the soil pipe. Can I use a P trap in this area? Or, should I replace the drum trap with a new one?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

We don't use drum traps any more. One reason being that it's impossible to snake a drain line through a drum trap. Replace the drum trap with a "P" trap.
    Good luck, Tom
