Correct number of allowances in W4
    Hi,

I am single working on H1-B. My old W4 form with my employer had "1" as number of allowances.

Incidentally I had to update my address and was asked to refill W4 again.

The first line in personal allowance worksheet says

    A) Enter 1 for yourself if no one else can claim you as dependent- Entered 1 here!

    B) Enter 1 if you are single and have only one job- Entered 1 here!

    E) Enter 1 if you will file as head of household on your tax return- Not sure of this one? Please explain this one.

In anycase, I have number of allowances as "2" (from A and B) and not "1" as already on my W4.

I just want to make sure if I am right in correcting my W4 now?

If yes, what will happen to the extra tax I had paid for last yr?

Please help me on this one as I have to fill my W4 now.

    Thanks in advance!!

I got my answer. Thanks to ATE.

It actually doesn't make much of a difference if its 1 or 2.

    Thanks!!

I have a same question as above. So is it S/2 or S/1 for a single with one job.

You can post it EITHER way, as both are legal.

S/2 results in LESS money being withheld.
