Our basement floods when the water table rises, the water comes in through the cracks in the cement floor. If you drill holes in the side of the basement drain, will that permit the water to find it's way to the drain rather than coming up through the floor? We have a walk out basement, no sump pump, home was built in 1950.

You might try this site to explore a basement de-watyering system. Wet Basements Made Dry - Basement De-Watering Systems Home Page Not cheap, about $10 per foot. The best fix is to cut the floor and trench in a foundation drain pipe and sump, a bit more than $10 per foot.

I suggest you call a company like Bdry for waterproofing, if this is not an option, you can go to home depot, as I once did and they will tell you exactly what product to buy to keep the water from coming in. I had a similar problem all I did, was cement the area of my basement, and it has stopped, I still plan on waterproofing, as most waterproofing company give life time warranties that are transferrable from one homeowner to the next. Another thing, that may be useful is if you recently purchased your home, this may have been an ongoing problem for the former owner, check your state laws on this, as you may be entitled to damages, by the former owners.

Are you on city sewer or a septic tank? You're asking to drain flood water back into the sewer system and that's mostly outlawed by local codes. Better solutions are ,basement sump pumps or a outside french drain around the foundation to drain the surface water away. Regards, Tom
