I live in a 40+ year old home and I am attempting to remove the shower basin that is the basement bathroom. I have removed the tile and sheetrock from around basin and have attempted to pry the basin with a metal bar but it will not budge due to the drain connection. Looking at the drain connection I see a metal lip that sits on the Plastic/fiberglass basin. I have removed the grill from the drain hole and inside the drain there seems to be some kind of hard putty. How do I go about on removing the drain that connects the basin to the pipes? Would it make sense to cut the basin with a Zawsal to see how the drain is connected? Since it is a basement shower the basin is sitting on concrete.

Is this a resin shower pan or is it built up out of cement? Your drain may be glued into the drain if but since its 40 years old I suspect not. You may be in the market for a 16 pound sledge hammer. Back to you.

It is a resin shower pan, I think that I will be cutting up the basin tonight and expose the drain connection. My guess is that it was soldered thus I will have to cut it with a metal blade. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Chances are good that the drain is glued to the shower pan base. Try doing a plung cut with a circular saw on 4 sides of the drain. Cut out a small box around the drain and then drive a crow bar under the pan. It is likely held in place with thinset mortar.
