    DVD writer
Please, I am shopping for a notebook : Siemens Fujitsu amilo pro edition V2020, 60 Gb HDD, 512 Mb Ram. The optical drive is DVD writer with double layer protection. Does this mean that it won't write CD's?? If it will, how would I know the writing speed for DVD and CD?
Second question: is the 512 Ram of this model upgradable in the current module?

    Thanks in advance. :)

I'm not sure what double layer protection is. But for DVDs Double layer generally means a burner that can burn to Double layer disks for 8.5g of storage.

As for speed, most double layer drives offer current maximum speeds. Generally up to 16x for DVd and 52x for CDs.

Have you thought of checking the model specs at Siemen's web site? Usually you can get full specs there.
