I get paid every 2 weeks, therefore there are 2 months of the year where I receive 3 paychecks. I have a disagreement with my husband that you will never see the "extra paycheck" per se. He seems to think that the 3rd check will be "free money" that is not allocated to anything. Instead of breaking your pay cheuques down by every 2 weeks, break it down by the year.

In 2006, you had total expenses of $20,000 (including 12 months rent, 12 months food, 12 months clothes, 12 months entertainment expense, 12 months car insurance, 12 months life insurance).

That left you with $6,000 which you put in your bank account.

If you were to take one of those “free” cheques at $1,000 and just throw it away, you would have less money. Instead of earnings 26,000, it goes down to 25,000. You still have the same 20,000 in expense, but what will happen is that instead of saving $6,000, you have spent 1,000 so you only save $5,000
