Dog won't eat and throwing up
Our dog Ginger is 10 years old, She is a golden retriever . We took her to her yearly checkup and they found out she lost 20 lbs. So they took x-rays and they found she had a enlarged heart and spleen. But they took blood and found nothing wrong. But we gave her some of that canned dog food that was no good, because she did stop eating before we went to the vet. It was alpo , purina prime cuts and gravy the ones that they found out were no good. But we didn't know that when we took her to the vet, only after we found out, she ate that like crazy , but we had no idea it was bad when we did feed it to her, so when we were at the vet we didn't tell her because then we didn't know that canned food was bad. We also switched her dry dog food from Iams to a cheaper brand, because my husband lost his job and couldn't afford the Iams anymore, but we switched her back to Iams and she was eating it but now she stopped. But I don't know if was that we changed the food or the bad canned dog food or what, but she won't eat anything now,she will eat a cracker now and then, but that's it. She looks so skinny and she's sunken in on her sides. And she's throwing up white slimy foam all the time. I have tried giving her some rice and that don't stay down either. She drinks water and that's it. We don't know what to do and we are afraid it might be that time to let her go :( But we would like to try some things to see if she could get better . We just don't know what to do, its hard when a dog gets this old. We don't know if it's the canned dog food or just that she's so old now.

You are in a very tough situation. Your dog really needs medical attention, perhaps even a different vet. It is tough to demand you do it when you may be struggling to meet your own needs. You can't spend money you don't have.

The dog food recall is a very confusing matter. I think the Alpo was recalled not because there were known problems, but because it couldn't be proven safe. I would continue to offer the Iams you have, perhaps even softening it with chicken broth or something.

Not all problems have good solutions.

Ten isn't that old for a Golden.

    Hello

Thanks so much, ill try the chicken broth and see if she will eat that. I know its hard deciding what to do , when you don't have that much money , we all love that dog so much, we had here since she was a little puppy. All her life she has had problems with her ears and allergies and she was burping all the time , from when she was little. I think we will take her in, but I'm afraid what there going to tell us , I don't like to see a dog suffer, but it's a very hard decision to make.

    Thanks a lot
