Are hickies supposed to be purple and how long do they take to go away!?

Hickies, as with any type of bruise, can be purple.
It is caused by broken blood vessels and they take as long to heal as a bruise of any other kind would take.
They can be made to go away a little more quick with massage.
It breaks up the blood cells collected there and disperses them.
